Description
Tillandsia ionantha is one of the most popular and attractive species of Air Plants, which are plants in the Bromeliaceae (bromeliad) family that do not require compost to grow. Also commonly known as the Sky Plant. This Air Plant is native to Mexico and Central America and grows as one head to start with(usually between 5-8cm) before producing a clump of new babies around the base. Having silvery-green leaves with dips of red edges this plant produces a purple tubular flower with yellow stamens.
Sunlight: Air plants like to have bright indirect sunlight, avoid giving them the harsh afternoon sun.
Watering: Make sure to mist 2-3 times per week (in humid environments) and soak for 20-30 minutes once a week; shake off excess water to avoid rot.
Air circulation: Essential. Needs good airflow to prevent moisture build-up and rot.
Air plants are not frost hardy.
